Composite Innovations Award for ZF Lemförder: ZF Lemförder has been awarded the CFK Valley Stade Convention prize for light construction. The company received the Composite Innovations Award 2011 for the concept of an innovative brake pedal. The award was made on the occasion of the international congress in Stade which attracts more than 400 specialists from the materials research and aeronautics industries. With the lightweight construction component made of organic sheet – a fibre composite material – and injection moulding engineers from ZF Lemförder in Damme demonstrated how, after a development period of only five years, as much as half of the weight can be saved without making any compromises with regard to safety and stability. In addition, the lightweight construction eliminates the necessity for a significant number of production process steps and thus guarantees economical manufacture. A further positive aspect is that the material used by ZF Lemförder can be completely recycled.
The jury of the CFK Valley Convention was so convinced by the overall concept developed by the plastics experts from Damme that, following a period of domination by the aeronautics industry in previous years, the much-coveted Composite Innovations Award 2011 went to a company in the automobile sector for the first time ever. “We are pleased that our project has convinced the jury about how a number of benefits can also be combined within the scope of lightweight construction even in the safety-relevant area “, says Dr. Torsten Bremer, a member of the Board of Directors of ZF Lemförder GmbH and head of the Boge Rubber & Plastics business unit. Öffentliche Versicherungen Oldenburg further reinforce their training efforts: On 1 August Board Member Horst Schreiber welcomed 21 young men and women who, over the course of the next three years, will undergo training in the company to qualify for the profession of insurance and finance management assistant. Income which we generate in our business area should flow back into the region – insofar as it is not needed to strengthen the equity capital of the LzO “, says Martin Grapentin, Chairman of the Board of the LzO. The LzO supports the multi-faceted involvement in society and culture with income from its various foundations, money from the sponsoring budget and profits from the “Save and Win” lottery in which a proportion of the cost of each lottery ticket is invested in social projects. In the recently published 93-page third edition of their “For Our Region” Funding Report many of the projects are portrayed in words and pictures, and also depicted from the viewpoint of the initiators (download or request for printed version at www.lzo.com). Reasonably priced house construction: Building companies which construct detached houses planned construction costs of 1,330 euros per square metre in 2009 – almost exactly the same price as in the middle of the 1990’s. As can be seen from an evaluation of the figures of the Statistisches Bundesamt (Federal Office of Statistics) by LBS Research the current cost advantage in Eastern Germany continues to be considerable: whilst the average cost per square metre there amounted to 1,122 euros, it was 1,400 euros in Western Germany. Average savings of 20% per square metre can be made with terraced houses both in the West and in the East compared to free-standing properties. According to information issued by LBS experts, values of 900 euros per square metre clearly underline that, particularly in the eastern part of Germany, it is still possible to lower house-building charges by making use of available cost- and space-saving variations. If such guidelines are adhered to, it is even possible to build a semi-detached house for not much more than 1,000 euros per square metre. An additional fact to be considered is that the living space in these properties is much lower. Therefore in Eastern Germany total construction costs for terraced houses and semi-detached houses are on average less than 120,000 euros whilst they amount to 150,000 euros in the case of free-standing properties. According to information issued by LBS Research, building costs do not necessarily play the most decisive role when selecting the construction form. Because meanwhile 88% of new homes in Eastern Germany are built as free-standing properties whereas in 1995 this proportion was 69%. Over 150 sustainability certifications in the last twelve months: Since the new EU guideline for renewable energies came into force SGS Germany has played a pioneering role in the certification of sustainability worldwide. After the head office in Geneva designated the Emstek location as a Center of Excellence (worldwide competence centre) we have succeeded in becoming market leader in the REDcert (Renewable Energy Directive Certification) and ISCC (International Sustainability and Carbon Certification) systems which are approved in Germany by the BLE. Our independent testing institute in the Ecopark employs 70 trained auditors and certifies the various economic participants in the biofuel and bioelectricity industries from Norway to Australia – from Brazil to the Ukraine. The international network of the SGS makes it is possible to guarantee a competent and target-oriented method of proceeding on a worldwide basis. The committed, meanwhile seven-strong team in Emstek carries out the organisation, co-ordination and monitoring. The biofuel market needs these certificates so that it can rely on neutral monitoring of the requirements on production of sustainable biomass and thus on the production of sustainable biofuels – within the scope of EU legislation. German agriculture is very well prepared for the production of sustainable biomass. A new offer from Dr. Schwerdtfeger Personalberatung: In the Weser-Ems region qualified managers and good subject specialists are a resource which is becoming increasingly rare. And yet they are often the decisive element for sustainable corporate success. For companies one solution which can be applied to counteract this process is to identify and develop existing potential amongst one’s own staff. Dr. Schwerdtfeger Personalberatung (Personnel Consultancy) has committed itself to this approach with a new offer – Dr. Schwerdtfeger Personalentwicklung (Personnel Development). There is a lot of potential amongst staff which is slumbering away and could be discovered and promoted to the benefit of the company. Moreover, ambitious young employees and subject specialists today expect their employers to map out realistic and sustainable development prospects. If you have any questions about this offer the experts in the field of staff development, Maren Ehlert and Daniela Winter, would be only too willing to answer them at any time. Newly developed wet shredders increase the efficiency of biogas systems: Hugo Vogelsang Maschinenbau GmbH from Essen (Oldb.), a well-established specialist for pump, shredding, distribution and spreading technology for agriculture, industry and municipalities, is launching two newly developed wet shredders onto the market – the RCX-48 and RCX-58 RotaCut Mazerator. The RotaCut types from the RCX series are especially suitable for use in biogas systems. They separate alien substances such as stones and metal parts safely and thus protect subsequent system parts from damage. In addition fibrous substances such as grass or dung or rough substances such as pieces of wood are disintegrated. Blockages and roping can be avoided in this way. In addition, the stable and stiff construction of the new RCX types and the robust engines mean reduced wear and tear, higher durability and consequently lower operating costs. Furthermore, bio-suspensions can be prepared economically. Harald Vogelsang, Managing Director of Vogelsang: “The bio-suspension is homogenised in the RotaCut and the fibrous and solid substances contained in it are shredded. Subsequently the suspension can flow better. Stirrers and pumps consume less electricity. The result is that the energy requirement is reduced.“ The surface of the solid substances gets bigger and in this way the gas yield is raised and the efficiency of the biogas system is clearly increased. NORDBETON GmbH test new transportable protection facility successfully to the containment levels T3/W2 and T1/W1 (DIN EN 1317): NORDBETON GmbH from Friesoythe in Lower Saxony has been a manufacturer of finished parts for concrete protective walls for over twelve years. Here the focus has been on the field of mobile protective facilities made of concrete which are mainly used as temporary transportable protective facilities on building sites on roads and as permanent as well as an easy-to-dismantle protective facility in central reservation crossing points of German federal motorways. NORDBETON GmbH’s product range embraces both the well-known “New Jersey“ and “Step-Profile“ and also special profiles, e.g. for car racing. The containment levels and spheres of action according to DIN EN 1317-2 range here from T1/W1 to H2/W5 at present. Here each system fulfils the ZTV-SA requirement to stand unanchored on the surface of the road. In May of this year NORDBETON GmbH tested its latest product successfully at TÜV-Süd Automotive GmbH in Munich to the containment levels of T3/W2 and T1/W1. Both tests were carried out at the lowest vehemence of impact level “A“ (ASI<1,0), which means the highest level of safety for vehicle passengers according to DIN EN 1317. NORDENIA generates a significant increase in turnover and profit in 2010: The international manufacturer of foils and packaging, NORDENIA INTERNATIONAL AG (15 plants on three continents), has been growing continuously for years. In 2010 NORDENIA achieved the best result so far in the 44-year history of the company. The basis of this successful growth course is the company’s strength in innovation and technology and its position as long-standing partner of the world leaders in the manufacture of consumer goods. Ralph Landwehr, Chairman of the Board of NORDENIA INTERNATIONAL AG, was also optimistic about the future during the balance sheet press conference on 15 July at the International Airport Münster/Osnabrück: “Our growth strategy is based on a solid foundation. Around 90 per cent of our products are used for consumer goods which are used every day and are scarcely exposed to fluctuations in the economic cycle. This means that our business is stable and can be planned“, he explained. “Moreover, we have stable long-term business relations and will also profit to an above-average extent in the future from the trend towards intelligent packaging solutions and from growing consumer requirements in the emerging economies.“ Positive figures marked the year 2010 of this manufacturer of flexible packagings, technical foils and product components: the sales volume increased by 14.1 per cent to around 241,300 tons (2009: 211,400 tons). In comparison to the previous year turnover increased by 20.8 per cent to 801.5 million euros (2009: 663.6 million euros). Awards for Raleigh E-Bike: The Raleigh Leeds HS was successful in E-Bike tests in two countries at the same time: winning a test at the Austrian Association for Consumer Information was succeeded by an excellent second place at Stiftung Warentest. The Austrian Association for Consumer Information tested the Raleigh Leeds HS in the context of a large electric wheel test. Under the title “Favourites thwarted“ the Raleigh Leeds HS was the clear winner of the test in the comfort class and was given the evaluation “good“. Of a total of 11 E-bikes tested only one other E-bike achieved this mark. Important qualities, which contributed to the bike receiving the award are the lightness (the lightest E-bike in the test), the hydraulic Magura HS11 calliper brakes and the durability of all parts. The E-bike testers of Stiftung who published their results in the current issue 8/2011 were of a similar opinion. Here the Raleigh Leeds HS achieved the overall mark “good (2.5)“ among the twelve test pedelecs and thus a sensational second place. Only two other E-bikes achieved this mark. New Bio-Eichenmühle guarantees complete organic production chain: There is a very strong trend among consumers to buy biologically produced food. And an increasing number of farmers are switching to purely organic production – more than every tenth egg sold in Germany is an organic egg. In order to be able to meet the increased demand the capacities must be expanded accordingly. Thus in the last few months a new mixed feed plant, the “Bio Eichenmühle” has been built near Stavenhagen. Here organic cereals are mixed with further ingredients, for example organic soya, according to specific recipes and thus a high-quality organic feed is produced. GS agri eG from Schneiderkrug near Cloppenburg and Biopark Markt GmbH from Malchin operate this plant on a joint basis. With a capacity of 80,000 tons organic mixed feed per year a complete organic production cycle can be guaranteed.
